West of the Trail

The area known as West of the Trail has some of Sarasota’s most sought-after luxury estate homes. Located just outside the downtown Sarasota core, the West of Trail area offers privacy and Luxury living within walking distance of Sarasota’s fine restaurants, shops, and art galleries. The quiet tree lined streets are lined with lush landscaping, historical homes, and picturesque gardens, making the area a favorite among local joggers.

West of Trail is on the west or bay side of South Tamiami Trail, with Mound Street to the north and Bay Road to the south. Sarasota Memorial Hospital and many physicans offices are located within the neighborhood, and several of Sarasota’s finest restaurants are also located here in the vicinity of Hillview Street and Osprey Avenue. The Mortons Gourmet Market has been a west of trail landmark for many years, as is the Marie Selby Botanical Garden with their bayfron estate and exquisite orchid displays.

Real estate in the West of Trail neighborhood is typically more expensive than some other parts of Sarasota, but it’s generally considered to be well worth the investment. With many of the estate properties fronting the Sarasota Bay waterfront, it’s easy to see why this area was chosen as one of Sarasota’s first neighborhoods. Historical preservation has kept the area in high demand among luxury buyers. In recent years developers have added some new homes to West of Trail, carefully maintaining the area’s Spanish and Mediterranean architectural influence.
