Myakka River State Park
One of Florida's oldest and largest state parks. The Myakka River flows through forty five square miles of wetlands, prairies and woodlands. Myakka is popular for hiking, fishing, camping, and wildlife observation. The parkis open every day from 8 AM until sunset. Myakka River State Park located on S.R. 72 in Sarasota, 9 miles east of I-75.
Things To Do: Rent one of five rustic log cabins: Within walking distance of the Myakka River. Reservations taken by phone or in person only. Cabins include kitchen with stove and refrigerator, bathroom with shower, large sleeping room with two double beds, a sleeper-sofa, air conditioning, heater, and a fireplace. Linens and kitchen utensils included.
Family Campsites: Campsites accommodate tents, trailers, or motorized campers up to 35' long. Each site includes a picnic table and grill. Water and electric available. Dump station for sewage disposal. Reservations taken by phone up to 11 months in advance. Rates: Dec-April $15 per night; May - Nov. $11 per night. Electricity $2 per night.
Primitive Camping Sites: Camping sites located along a 39-mile hiking trail. $3 per person per night for adults. Children under 18 are $2.

Siesta Key Drum Circle
Every Sunday in Sarasota, about 1 hour before sunset, located just south of the main pavilion between lifeguard stands 3 and 4 on Siesta Public Beach. Just follow your ears. This is not a commercial event but local phenomenon that began sponteneously and now has a life of its own.
